Summer Programs for High School Students

Applications are still being accepted for two exciting programs for high school students in the summer of 2013!

Alaska Business Week
June 1st through June 8th
Residency program on the UAF campus

The objective of the Alaska Business Week program is to give students a hands-on learning opportunity to explore their leadership skills and future career choices, as well as get a head start in college.  Students receive two college credits upon completion of this program.  Scholarships are available based on financial need; instructions on how to request a scholarship are included during the application process.

UAF Leadership Workshop Series
June 30th through July 3rd
Daytime program at the UAF Community and Technical College

REGISTER NOW!

This program is modeled after the UAF Summer Leadership Institute and consists of four day-long sessions of classroom activities.  These sessions will include a variety of team-based activities, workshops, lectures, research, and ideas about how to engage with the community. Scholarships are available based on financial need; instructions on how to request a scholarship are included during the application process. This program is generously sponsored by Birchwood Homes.

Video of Dale Nienow Lecture Available Online

Dr. Dale Nienow visited Fairbanks on December 4, 2012 and gave an insightful presentation as part of the UAF Northern Leadership Center’s Susan Herman Distinguished Speaker Series. Dr. Nienow’s talk on the topic of ethical leadership was presented at the Carlson Center and was entitled “The Power of Us: Leadership that Builds Strong Communities”. Dr. Nienow’s discussion highlighted the importance of story-telling, boundaries, and how to effectively bring people together.

Dr. Nienow is Executive Director of the Center for Ethical Leadership. He creates Gracious Space where people can work across boundaries to form collective leadership.  He is known for helping people open up to deeper dialogue and new relationships that will move groups and communities forward on their compelling issues.
